Bone Deep
“I’m sorry, Hailey.” David placed his hand on her shoulder. The condescending gesture infuriated her. While other passengers and flight crews moved around them in the terminal, she stood dripping wet and staring incredulously at him.

Inheriting Love
Las Vegas, Nevada

Ryan squirmed alone in his double bed, clicking the remote control until he settled on a fly fishing tournament. He heard the screen door to his trailer slam shut, a muffled thump signaled his home health aide, Derrick had arrived and stashed his lunch cooler.

Shades of Grace
In the dining room of the Live Oak Country Club, Aaron Robertson enjoyed his iced tea and waited for his daughter. Good thing he’d drilled punctuality into her; he wouldn’t have much longer to wait. Judith had turned out to be the kind of daughter any father would be proud of. She was intelligent and attractive in a quiet sort of way. Yes, Judith’s life was unfurling just as he’d hoped.

An Unfinished Love
Jessica Roarke’s head was buried in a law book when the electronic ring of her cell phone startled her back to reality. She blew out a long breath, glanced at the caller information, and answered with mild annoyance. “I’ve still got ten minutes, Aunt Opal.”

Living Canvas
There was something familiar about the painting - of course Audrey knew that when she bought it. The long she stared at the summer landscape, its sun shafts casting long shadows of trees on the ground before her, the more she felt that she was standing in the meadow. A warm breeze caressed her face, the scent of pine needles and water weeds tingled in her nose. The rustle of leaves overhead whispered a welcome. Was it just memories, or had she become part of the painting? Audrey took a step and felt warm earth between her bare toes, punctuated by cool patches of grass on the soles of her feet.

Island Heat
Chelsea Pearce knew someone was watching.

Again.

A scraping sound from the balcony above sent an odd crawling sensation down her neck as she attempted to eat lunch. Not easy to do when someone was staring.

If someone was staring.

Thistle Flower
The feed store had always been one of Dani O’Hara’s favorite places to hang out. She loved the rich mixture of aromas coming from sacks of sweet mash and fine leather tack lining the walls of the dilapidated old building. There was always coffee and free donuts if you got there early enough. Rays of sunlight that managed to pierce the grimy store front windows played in the fine dust that drifted around the fragrant interior.

Have You Seen Her?
I can’t leave here without a job

Dani Reynolds sat perched on a barstool with her legs crossed patting her foot to the reverberating bass waiting for the owner of the club to come back. He’d told her to stay there in his office while he took care of an issue at the bar. She nervously twisted one of the two costume jewelry rings she wore on each hand and looked around the impressive office, swallowing the lump of apprehension in her throat. She had to make him understand how much she needed the job yet appear confident at the same time. Granted, she didn’t have any experience as a cocktail waitress, but she was willing to work like a slave. Mentally rehearsing her speech, she pressed the pointy toe of her shoe into the plush steel gray carpet that matched the Ultrasuede wall covering. The top of his ebony desk was adorned with pewter accessories.

Chasing Savannah
“Shoot! What am I going to do now?” Savannah Moon asked herself as she slapped the steering wheel with two bare palms. The two carat diamond on her left hand sparkled when the lightning ripped through the sky, coming within inches of the sleek jaguar. Savannah jumped at the bright flash of electricity. Then the hail came in droves, pummeling the car, bouncing off the silver, motionless cat that sprang from the car hood.
