I'm from North Dakota, mother of 2. I work full time but my dream has always been to write.

Jeremy could hear the woman next door crying deep heart wrenching sobs.  Placing his hand on the wall that connected their bedrooms, he wanted to go and comfort her, but knew that he couldn’t.

Jeremy knew the reason she was crying, he had seen her boyfriend announce his marriage to another woman on public television tonight. Though they had never introduced themselves he knew everything there was to know about his neighbor. He had been swept away the first time he saw her. Thinking she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.  With her long auburn hair, bright blue eyes and the most curvaceous body he had ever seen. She was sin on legs. He never understood what she saw in Richard. Everything he had seen or heard about Richard made Jeremy think of him as a snake.

Finally hearing her sobs subside, knowing she had cried herself to sleep.  Jeremy moved around the condo in the dark and got ready to go out into the night.  Damn how he sometimes hated his job, spying on people isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.  He hated spying on Elizabeth, but he had to make sure if she had anything to do with Richards illegal activities. Jeremy doubted she did, but he had to prove it so she could be marked off the list. Richard was the ringleader in most of the criminal happenings in the city. He would get the drug lords, murders and thieves off the hook, and in return they would work for him, making him one of the richest men in the county.

Jeremy had only been on the job for a week. He was hired by the previous District Attorney who knew there was something fishy going on with Richard winning the election, with a record number of votes, considering before he even ran the race, Richard was nothing but a slimy, underpaid lawyer in the seediest part of town.  Jeremy was supposed to get close to Elizabeth so he could get more dirt on Richard, now that plan had been thrown out the window.

Elizabeth woke up early the next morning, feeling as if she had a hangover.  Her head was pounding, and her stomach was churning. It was only Saturday; she had to figure out what she was going to do. Run like hell or stand her ground. One side of her brain told her to run, and not look back, and the other told her to stay put, and not let that weasel run her out of her home town.  Maybe she should just go on a short vacation. She still had more than enough money in her savings account.  Elizabeth decided that’s what she would do, a vacation would be the perfect cure, get away to clear her head, and then she would decide what she would do with the rest of her life.

While she packed her bags, she remembered the small beach front house her aunt had left her. Elizabeth hadn’t been there in years, she just hoped it was still standing, and the caretakers she hired were still alive and taking care of it for her.  She took her suitcase out to her car, and stowed it in the trunk of the car, returning to the house she started going through her kitchen cupboards seeing if there was anything in there she could take with, no sense in stopping at the grocery store when she had just gone grocery shopping two days ago.  By the time she had everything loaded, and ready to go it was already nearing noon. She took one last look around her condo making sure everything was turned off and the windows were locked. When she opened the front door, Rory stood there.

Grinning he asked “Going somewhere?”

Elizabeth tried slamming the door but he was much faster, and had positioned himself inside before she could even get the door shut.  Elizabeth pivoted around, and made a mad dash for the back door but Rory had her by the waist before she could even take another step. Screaming out, hoping anyone would hear her and come to her rescue, but she knew it was futile. No one was home at this time of day, and it was the weekend so everyone was gone. She kicked out with her foot hoping to catch him in the shin, but he was faster. She reached behind her aiming for his eyes, hoping to at least surprise him so he would loosen his grip. He threw her to the floor, pinning her body down with his.
