Writing History

I'm a college student working towards her BA in English and I'm also an aspiring author. I'm working on my first manuscript, which is a contemporary romance, and I'm looking for a critique partner that can keep me in line because I am a procrastinator and get distracted very easily. I'm starting out with contemporary romance but want to branch out to historical romances and maybe paranormal romances. I also have a writing sample of what I'm working on right now.

Her doctor came into the room with the blood test results. She was nervous because her mother’s side of the family has a history of different type’s health problems. She hadn’t been feeling well for a couple of weeks and was worried that something was wrong with her. Her boyfriend has also been worried about her since she’s been throwing up almost every day for the past couple of weeks and nauseous.

“Well Ms. Tavarez congratulations. You’re pregnant!” The doctor announced.

Angelina “Angel” Tavarez’s jaw dropped after the doctor announced that she was pregnant. The look on her face was that of complete shock at this impossible news that she had just heard.

“What do you mean I’m pregnant? I can’t be pregnant Dr. Jameson. I was on the pill and I never missed taking one. How can I be pregnant?” Angel said this as she jumped up from the chair in front of the doctor’s desk that she had been sitting in for the past 5 minutes. She paced in front of the doctor muttering to herself.

“Um…Ms. Tavarez I can see that you are a bit surprised, but you are indeed pregnant. You are in fact eight weeks pregnant.” Dr. Jameson told her calmly.

“Oh my god, this can’t be happening to me.” Angel said as she sat back down in the chair she jumped out of earlier. “I’m really pregnant?”

“Yes you really are pregnant Ms. Tavarez.” Dr. Jameson said. “I have to ask you an important question Ms. Tavarez. Do you want to have this baby?”
